Three Easy Ways to Get Extra Steps This Summer

LifeCare’s Summer STEP It Up Challenge started July 1, and we’re already off to a great start! Check out these tips to help you get in some extra steps over the Fourth of July holiday weekend and throughout the summer:

  1. Take a hike! No really. Hitting the trails helps build muscle, clear your head and welcomes fresh air. Plus, an hour-long hike can burn over 350 calories. You could even bring the whole family and have a picnic. If you’re planning to attend a parade, walk the route before or after the festivities begin.
  2. Lap the store. Stocking up for your big barbecue? Make a few extra laps at the grocery store, and walk in place while standing in line. Also, park farther away than you usually do.
  3. Shop ‘til you drop (figuratively, of course!). Take advantage of the sales and walk the mall. Even if you don’t buy anything, indoor malls are typically sizable enough that you’ll be able to spend a few minutes doing a few laps to help put a nice dent in your daily step goal.
