For Margie Green, B.S.N., R.N., personalizing patient care is not a gray area.
As the Director of Quality Assurance at Haven Home Health in Dallas, Margie strives to personalize care for patients from the beginning of their journey.
“At the start of care, I identify the expectations of care of the patient and family,” she said. “Expectation and reality lead to satisfaction. Understanding what is meaningful and tailoring the plan of care to include that enhances the patient’s engagement in their own care, increases their satisfaction and positively impacts the outcome of care we want them to have.”
She says this step is crucial to instilling a sense of being valued – both for the patient and the caregiver.
“It’s important to have a mentality of ‘personalize it’ because creativity, engagement and ownership are a dynamic combination that will greatly influence the quality of care,” she explained. “For our associates, it drives satisfaction with their work. Feeling you’ve made a difference is very rewarding. A cookie cutter approach does not make for world-class patient care!”
The value Personalize It is defined as:
We demonstrate compassion and caring as caregivers while delivering high quality and clinical excellence. We recognize that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to patient care. We seek to understand our patients’ underlying hopes, dreams and aspirations. We create a warm environment that is dedicated to the thoughtful, tailored care of our patients’ physical and emotional needs.
Keep up the great work, Margie! Thanks for demonstrating our values every day.
