LifeCare recently named Emily Gard, R.N., B.S.N., M.H.A., LNC, as its new Vice President of Clinical Operations.

The Pulse caught up with Emily to learn more about her.

What did you want to be as a kid and how did you ultimately choose your career?

I wanted to be a chef or a spy for the government or preform for Cirque du Soleil (I am not sure why, I was athletically challenged).

What was your first job?
I had two first jobs! I worked as a cashier for a pharmacy and sold newspaper ads for my hometowns local newspaper.

What is a typical workday like for you?
Since I am still so new, it’s so varied! I am starting to get into a semi-routine, though. I like a workday that is not predictable.

What is the biggest challenge of your work?
Making sure I give each hospital enough time to describe their needs and wants, from a clinical prospective.

What do you do when you’re not at work?
I love to run, play tennis, cook and spend time with my family!

Who had the most influence on you growing up?
My dad. I have never met a man that works as hard as he does. He is one of the most selfless people I have ever met. He always made sure his family’s needs came before his own and still does, to this day. He always pushed me to be better than I was the day prior and not settle with mediocre. He taught me to treat every person you met with the upmost respect. He also has a wicked sense of humor, which I acquired from him!

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
I would love to see the future AND read people’s minds!

What’s your favorite vacation spot?
I lived in England for three years and that has always been one of my favorite places to visit!

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice was “always remember how a suboptimal boss made you feel and never allow your employees and coworkers to feel that way about you.” I live by that rule today!

Do you collect anything?
Shoes…..and coffee cups… because I LOVE coffee.

What are you passionate about?
Making a meaningful difference. Not just in my career, but in all aspects of my life.

Who would you most like to swap places with for a day?
Meghan Markel

Welcome to the LifeCare family, Emily!
