LifeCare recognizes Wound Care Awareness Week

During the month of June, LifeCare and Healogics recognize the great work of our skilled care team and the advancements we’ve made in wound care during Wound Care Awareness Week, celebrated June 4-8.

According to Healogics, It is estimated that chronic wounds affect 6.7 million people in the U.S. and the incidence is rising, fueled by an aging population and increasing rates of diseases and conditions such as diabetes, obesity and the late effects of radiation therapy. If left untreated, chronic wounds can lead to diminished quality of life and possibly amputation of the affected limb.

LifeCare is proud to partner with Healogics at our Plano facility. “We see patients living with non-healing wounds for a prolonged amount of time due to the lack of awareness of advanced wound care options,” says D. Scott Covington, MD, FACS, a member of the Healogics team. “We work to educate community physicians about which of their patients can benefit from advanced wound care, and then provide coordinated care to heal that patient’s wounds.”

Additionally, our Dallas and Fort Worth hospitals also specialize in wound care with leading physicians and technology to advance healing for our patients requiring specialized care. Setting us apart from other providers is our hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT).

HBOT increases the concentration of oxygen in the blood and is used in conjunction with advanced wound care when the patient qualifies. This technique is found to be vital to expediting the healing process by stimulating the formation of collagen matrix and angiogenesis.
