As a healthcare provider, it’s important for us to not only care for our patients but to take care of ourselves as well. To highlight those who are going above and beyond when it comes to their health and well-being, we will be featuring our associates with Silver, Gold and Platinum status levels in The Pulse. This edition features Chief Nursing Officer Melissa Bennett.
“We are in a unique environment where we see every single day what ignoring your health will lead to,” says Bennett. “We see people who have smoked, overeaten, not exercised and been complacent about their health. We can choose to become one of our patients or we can choose a healthier lifestyle.”
Through a variety of activities, Bennett has reached Silver status in Go365. “I walked and danced a lot of my steps,” she says. “I’ve also participated in challenges, complete a daily health/nutrition quiz and got credit for my CPR certification.” She’s not stopping at Silver, though. “I’m working on my vaccinations and getting my biometric health screening.”
While it’s not easy to get in all these activities, Bennett makes it work with her schedule. “As a busy CNO, my days are long and I need to be available to my staff 24/7. I’ve found the best way to do that is working out at 5 a.m. every morning,” she says. “I don’t give myself the opportunity to decide I’m too tired or don’t want to work out for the day.”
She attributes a lot of her success to the activities generated from Go365. “I am more focused on moving throughout the day and incorporating movement into my activities, like walking to someone’s office for a conference call,” she says. “Through the app, I can track my accomplishments and earn points to buy gift cards/rewards for myself and my family.”
